A few months ago, I went through a processing exercise using NLP (Neuro-Lingustic Programming) and prayer.

With this activity, I had to walk through my life’s timeline.

It was easy for me to look at my present life because I’m currently in a season of growing. I’m surrounded by people who love me, by mentors, and by challenges that help me to continuously improve myself.

Everything changed when I was asked to physically take a step back in order to look at my past through a different angle.  As I walked backwards, I found it difficult to look back at the bad memories of my life.

As every negative episode of my life presented itself, I felt my chest tighten. The rhythm of my breathing changed, and I started to feel uncomfortable.

I wanted to stop the activity but I didn’t know how. I wanted to escape the situation because it was just too painful.

But as I was forced to look longer at my past, I slowly saw that I wasn’t alone.

In every bad episode of my life, Jesus was there with me.

When I was hurt, He was there. When I was hopeless, He was there. When I was in despair, He was there.

In every memory, Jesus was right beside me. He never left me.

My mistake was, when I was going through those problems, I was ultra-focused on the bad things that were happening. I forgot to appreciate the fact that I was still standing and moving.

I was locked on to the problem that I failed to see that Jesus, my personal Lord and Saviour, was there with me. He was crying with me, He was hurting with me, He was bleeding with me, all while He was also shielding me from further pain.

He was there fighting those problems with me.

I thought that God was only present in my life every time there was a good thing happening to me. I thought that I had to earn His love for me like a reward given to a high performing employee.

Oh I was so wrong!

Now I know that bad times happen because that’s how life works. There are good days and there are bad days, but one thing is constant, God’s gracious presence in our lives. The fact that He’s always with us is truly comforting.

JESUS, I’m sorry for the times, in the past, that I gave power to my problems by focusing on them too much. Starting today, I surrender every good and bad thing in my life. I know that You’ll always be with me every step of the way.

Just as You were in my past, Jesus, I fully know that You’ll be there in my future.

FRIEND, the great thing about Jesus is that He doesn’t choose the people he’ll be with. He is with His people. Period.

He is with you even if you can’t feel Him. He is with you through the stormy seasons of your life. He’s definitely with you through the vivacious victories of your life.

If today you are experiencing problems, persecution, and pain, I want you to know that you are not alone. God is with you, and he’ll always be with you. It doesn’t matter how big or small your problem is, what matters is that God loves and cares for you.

Try it out, look closely at your past and you’ll see that in every thing that happened to you, Jesus was there.

If Jesus was in your past, Jesus is in your present, and most of all Jesus will be with you in your future!

God loves you!
